Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Argent, two crossed quills Gules superimposed by a polestar Azure bearing a lozenge with axis horizontal Or. Arched below the shield a Blue scroll doubled and inscribed "ARCTIC PAYMASTERS" in Silver.

Symbolism
Argent (silver gray) and golden yellow are the colors traditionally associated with the Finance Corps. Red is for vitality, courage and zeal. Blue and gold are adapted from the State flag of Alaska, home of the Battalion, and represent loyalty and excellence. The quills allude to the unit's mission and are crossed to represent strength and support. The polestar symbolizes the unit's location in the far north, and the lozenge is adapted from the Finance Corps insignia of branch.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 16 May 1994.
